Hello folks

I'm considering getting a FAC, I'd like to eventually get a shot gun and some type of rifle mainly for target shooting, but I'd like to start off turning my Sub 12ft lb gun up to a higher level for further distance shooting.

Question!

I read through what I think is an application for a certificate but you have to give reasons why you want the license.

I was hoping that I can just apply and receive the license so I can go and explore new areas of shooting!

Is this possible or do you need to be a member of a shooting club etc to apply.

any help appreciated.

Hi + Welcome -

OK.....

This part is normally the main reason for application rejection - Have to be blunt - but anyone applying needs to consider it.
To get a shotgun / firearm license - normally you need to have a clean criminal record, and buy that I mean no violence on the record. Speeding does not count, but they do look at your record.

Next -
Good Reason
The Licensing Officer will consider why you want any Firearm - Shotgun - they like to know you visit a club or have a written permission from a Land Owner to shoot or undertake pest control.

Shotgun is generally less checks, a rifle normally you need to present permission for medical records to be shown.

Best way to apply is
Get permission from a Land Owner to shoot or join a club and go through the training and verification process at the club.
Have good reason to own a firearm.
Remember the Firearm can only be used normally where the License allows, shooting in your back yard with a licensed Firearm is a NO NO.
You normally need a gun safe, and expect a visit from a Firearm officer and show the installation of the safe.

They have to find good reason to reject your application, so as long as you are behaving and have good reason it hopefully will be fine.

Sub 12 rifles to turn upto full FAC I would always recommend a gunsmith do that for you, and sometimes its just better to buy an FAC - it can be difficult with some Sub 12's to turn up.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah I have a full clean background check so that shouldn't be a problem.

And I should also be able to get a letter of permission.

Do most gun clubs allow use/hire of their own rifles?

You don't say what your current air rifle is?

Pcp or springer?
If it's a spring gun /gas ram I can offer advice, however depends on the gun, it may not be what you're hoping to hear!

I currently have a Walther RM8 PCP and not long since got rid of my Sweet 16 :)
