Hi all,

I am waiting for all the restrictions to die down so that I can order a FX Dreamline Bullpup in .22. But as this is my first .22 I do not have a store of pellets, so I am looking for advice.

I am looking for
- Slow, accurate backyard plinking / informal target shooting pellet
- Good pellet for rabbit hunting, probably in the 50-100 yard range, depending on how quickly the bunnies wise up :)

So, just looking for a good start, does anyone have any favourites that are likely to work reasonably well in a Dreamline?

Thanks!
Sander

Hi,
The pellets that I use are the FX Branded ones ( which are also made by JSB ) so JSB will also work fine.
Hades 15.89 will do the trip for hunting.
Depending on the power you want weights can vary from 14.3g up to 25g, - others do also work like the H&N, but would avoid the bargain basement pellets - its all part of the fun learning the pellets and matching them to your rifle, but a good starting point is anything JSB.

I agree with the above comment. FX rifles are specifically designed to work well with JSB pellets. I have a .22 Dreamlite and mine shoots very accurately with both 15.89gr and 18.1gr. It seems to slightly prefer the 18.1. I have also shot some Hades pellets (also 15.89gr) through it and they have taken down their fair share of squirrels.

So it sounds like lighter rather than heavier? The only JSB ones that I can lay my hands on right now are the Jumbo Exact Heavy at 18.13gr, so I'll get some and test anyway.

H&N seems to be freely available, so I'll get some H&N Field Target Trophy at 14.66gr and out of pure curiosity also some H&N Piledriver slugs at 29.17.

I am not sure that the Dreamline will have enough power (maybe with a power plenum later?) or enough barrel (500mm) to do these justice, but you just have to try these, don't you :)

Thanks all!

SanderW, All those are great recommendations to see what your gun likes. I would add into the mix the Air Arms 16g ( made by JSB just different molds) as well as the Polymag 16g.
The Power Plenum added 30fps to my factory tuned DL Classic .25
I see a PP in your future.

Haha! I also see a PP in my future, but right now I don't even have the gun in my sweaty paws yet... So I am overthinking this purely because I have too much idle time on my hands...

Interesting about the Air Arms, I see a local shop as AA Diablo Field 16gr in .22 in stock. I did not know they are made by JSB, is that true for all Air Arms brand pellets? Or only these specific ones?

Thanks!

I have a dreamline bull pup with the bottle for more capacity, it loves the Hades but for ratting the JSB Stratton Jumbo's are absolutely superb and shoot extremely flat, when head shot there is no tail spinning just all comes to a full stop, not even a twitch!!
I was only put on to these pellets after getting my BSA R10 reworked by JB and on the test sheet he returned with it ,the best groups were with the Strattons at 50 yds. I used the AA s aswell but have to admit the Strattons will shoot a full 18 shot mag through one ragged hole

Thanks maddog546, I'll definitely see if I can get some Strattons.

And then I have a habit of derailing my own threads. :)

But talking of plenums, There is the 17cc external plenum and the 30cc internal plenum. Is bigger always better? Also, the 30cc internal plenum replaces the factory plenum, so the total gain is less than 30cc, but I don't know how big the factory plenum is.

To my understanding the plenum gives better efficiency, in my case mostly more shots per fill, rather than more power for normal pellets. Is there a downside?

Thanks!

Its supposed to be 15-20 Extra FPS per Plenum, and you can stack them, I have No2 arriving this week.

on the other hand I have got my Crown (500mm barrel) shooting 12FPE at 25 BAR in .22, so there are other ways to make these more air efficient, I can't even be bothered to find out how many shots I will get from my 500cc Bottle

I do think I'll add up with a plenum eventually (or sooner) but I suppose the balance is in not trying to make Dreamline into something else. Don't know yet...

Also, turns out getting stock during these times is really difficult, so I am still on a waiting list.
