I shoot an Artemis SMK CP2 and out of the box it shot at 8.75 ft lb in the rifle configuration. Obviously, this is a bit soggy for pesting so I added a stronger hammer spring, bigger transfer port, weighted spring guides and all that to try and get a bit more oomph out of it and under normal conditions it chronos at a maximum of 11.2 ft lb, gives ten shots above 11 ft lb and then another fifteen down to 10 ft lb. Which is grand, it is a useful and very shootable piece.

Today it is 30C in the shade, ten above average, so I thought it'd be interesting to see what effect the extra 10C would make on the CO2 pressure and my gun is now unlawful. It fired the first ten rounds at just over 12 ft lb and I've had to de-tune it. (That said, it was smashing fun to shoot.)

Thought this was worth sharing, something to be aware of. If you use CO2 the hot weather could put you in trouble/court/nick..

put a CO2 in the fridge for 1/2 hour see what happens, not the microwave though. what you need is a winter gun and a summer gun..david. when at the range I do try to keep my 3ltr bottle out of the hot sun ! yer never know mate.

Haven't tried refrigerating a capsule but I have had the experience of having a great shot present very early in the morning only to see the pellet sort of flop out of the barrel and land about half way to the rabbit because both gun and CO2 are at 10C.

My plan is to raise funds for an entry level PCP or a good springer for when the weather cools down. I only bought the CP2 to see how I felt about shooting and to learn a bit about air guns without breaking the bank and it has done that admirably, I'm a hopeless addict now so the thought of not having a shootable gun for four or five months... just not going to happen.

CO2 and temperature are a nemesis to each other. Shall we say you have a "Hot Gun Sir":D

Ten degrees cooler this morning so I neatly put a pellet into the branch between a woodies feet. And it bent down for a look before flying off. One and a half MOA difference at 30m. between yesterday evening and this morning.

I gotta get myself something that runs on air.

I notice a very different change with my full power break barrels here in the states. With the humidity every summer, they become very inconsistent in velocities. I think this is because water vapor gets inside the cylinder and then forced out by the piston, sucked in again and so on. That is only speculation though.

Relative humidity has to make a difference, for sure. Certainly it changes the density of the air you're shooting through, can't think that it won't change the behaviour the air compressed by the cylinder too. Interesting stuff. Kind of makes me wish I hadn't forgotten all that Gas Laws stuff I did at school...
