Hey George.
on the budget friendly side, i would recommend walther rotex(K) RM8.
I bought one used, put thousands of shots through it without issues.
pros
: Cheap...
: Reliable, mine was used, and has 10k+ shots through it in my hands, no issues, atleast not for me.
: Keeps up with any FX, brocock etc on 25 meters (easily sub 10mm groupings, holes touching every time), 50 meters works very well, but you start to see the spread get bigger. So consider the distance you want to shoot at and make sure the rifle is up to it.
: Walther lothar barrel, vey good barrel, unless you want to go slugs, lothar barrels are known to be very picky with slugs.
: Beautiful minelly wooden stock, if you are into that.
Cons
: Zero adjustability (except the trigger offcourse)
: Only 60 ish shot pr fill. 200cc bottle at 232 bar
: Magazin, although very easy to load, can be a bit weird because it rotates on the same stroke as pushing the pellet in the barrel. Non issue for me, but some comment on it.
: Fairly heavy gun. might not be the best for kids to handle.
Obviously my personal opinion, based on my rifle. 177 FAC. shooting jsb monster 13,4 grains for best accuracy.
There are definetly better rifles out there, but as far as im concerned, non in that price range (that i have tried)
Im told the vermint is the same gun, different stock.
Just an option to put on the have-a-look list. But as im sure you know, do your own research...
There are tons of interesting rifles out there, hope you find the right one.
