Dear Giles,

Do you think you’ll get your hands on a Hill EC-3000 Electric Air Compressor to review later in the year. There’s just so many compact pcp/bottle charging compressors out there. But the Hills Ec-3000 caught my eye and as it’s built in the UK spares would be easily available. I just haven’t seen any full reviews of it yet and you can’t buy direct from Hills themselves only through your local gun dealer. The main point in a review I’d like to see is showing a certain litre size bottle being charged. I know Hills has a disclaimer on not recommending any thing over 4 litres.

I have been asked earlier in the week, via text from someone stranded without air ( dying from pumping ) to have a look at the Hill's Compressor. I will reach out to them direct and the UK Distributor and see what comes about.
I was led to believe that best performance for the Hill Comp was as a direct to gun fill only, that was at Shot Show in USA, and that may have changed since. So can only go with what I know until I get / see one. Seems approx £799 retail. If I can get one, yep will video it. Just for your info, I have an Air Venturi which I use to fill my 12l dive bottle, and have been running that for 18 months now - only ever had a low pressure reed fail, which was a £10 fix. Also use the Nomad 2, for travelling around and that works as well. Will keep you informed - but with the current situation it may be a while until I get something delivered.

Dear Giles,

Thank you for responding to my enquiry, here is a shorten email between myself and Hills awhile back regarding the EC-3000 filling up to 4ltr cylinder bottles.

We have done many tests on 4ltr cylinders and the results are as follows:
From 0 to 250 bar takes aprox 1 hr 45 min From 200 bar to 300 bar takes aprox 45 min
We have also tested the compressor filling up 12ltr cylinders from 0 to 300 bar and it works well, but takes quite a long time.
We do not recommend filling of large cylinders is carried out by untrained people and as such will not be publishing any data on cylinders above 4 ltrs.

Hi Giles.
Will you be selling air compressors from your shop? Especially the Daystate one? I have ordered one from Pellpax but they are now saying it’s a 5 week delivery time which is ridiculous and am thinking of cancelling the order. Thanks.

After changing my AA400 to a Uragan Compact it became apparent I was going to end up in A&E trying to get any more than 200 Bar in it with the hand pump due to my own physical limitations gifted by a stroke a few years ago. I looked at the ebay units/Omega/Nomad 2 etc but then saw the release of the Hills unit and as I always try to buy British if I can thought lets give it a try.

I have attached a video of the first test fill of my Uragan Compact

I have since used it around a dozen times and and it just goes about its job quitely with no fuss.

Thank you for posting that video, Stonecold. Very instructive. The compressor sounded fairly noisy. Can you give an impression of just how noisy it was? Thank you.

The compressor is sitting up at my gun dealer, as I’m still awaiting an element Titan scope and fx stx barrel liner. So I haven’t picked it up as yet because I’d rather make one journey to collect everything.
There was a recall on some of the compressors due to I believe inner bolts not having lock tight on them. I’ve asked my gun dealer to check the serial number on mine and see if my compressor was part of that batch that had the issue.
But once I get everything I’ll make a post/pictures with my thoughts and a run down of hows things work.

i am toying with the idea to get a pump but heres my maths (which are holding me back)

My local dive shop charge £6 for any size bottle so £800/£6 is 133 Refills for me and I get it refilled every 4 weeks so thats 11 years refills and worry free refilling. Minus the inconvenience of a 4 mile round trip each time!

So if we could say the the hills EC will work worry free for 11 years - it would be a no brainer!

But if you didn't already have a dive bottle you could knock at least a couple of ton off the purchase price of a compressor and then if it's twenty miles each way to your nearest friendly dive shop...

I don't yet have a PCP but when I do get one the plan is to get a cheap knock-off stirrup pump from China for the first few months and save up for a compressor. Going the dive bottle route seems silly if I can be completely independent at home.

It really comes down to how much you will be shooting and how far your local dive shop is away.
Also Hills have tested the compressor up to 4 litre bottles but if you intend on getting a bigger bottle. Then you probably better either looking at a bigger compressor or visiting your dive shop.
I live out in the countryside and the dive shop is 45-60 min round trip x 2 so I’m better off getting a compressor and a 3 litre bottle or filling the gun by the compressor in under 5 mins

I am also waiting and waiting for a Titan. Hopefully soon.

Is not noisy at all during use, can hold a conversation normally with it a couple of feet away.

Hi there all,

I have a Hills Ec 3000 ands it’s a dream machine. It is absolutely brilliant and easy to use and fills so quickly.
I also looked around for a long while before I chose this one and to be honest it is not cheap but I wanted one to last and good quality and of course the back up needed if there is a problem. Hills compressor is designed and built in Sheffield and the construction is second to none. As you can tell I am very impressed with this machine. I live on an island in Greece and the compressor only took a week to get here. It is well boxed up for transport so for Uk buyers cannot see it being more then a few days to get to you should you choose to get one.

Good luck to anyone looking for this or any compressor

Be aware, the gauge on the compressor is way off.
a 200 bar fill only gets you 180 ish. 230 about 205, and 300 usually less than 270.
Great compressor, but crappy gauges / measuring.
Have a calibrated gauge i use for comparison.

Hi folks, I’m new on this forum.
I have owned the Hill Ec-300 since the 7th of April last year. Mine fills to the exact pressure. It’s never missed a beat. It is a fantastic piece of kit. I got mine from John at Hardy’s in Sheffield. I can’t recommend this highly enough. The only thing that I struggled with was the temperature in my gun room was below 5 degrees. Below that the built in thermal protection stops the machine working to stop damage. I put it in another room & it never fails. It hardly used any fluids.
So easy to use. I love it.

Only had mine a couple of weeks, can't fault it so far. The gauge was bang on charging my HW100 to 200 bar, the same couldn't be said for my FX Impact, the gauge on it though reads 10-15 bar on the gun gauge as compared to the compressor. As above, the inbuilt temp sensor wouldn't let me run it in the garage, brought it into the house and started on first attempt. Yes it is expensive, but when you take into account the driving to a local bottle fill shop etc, it'll pay for its self in no time. I do intend till fill a small dive bottle, upto 4ltr , that'll take a while longer for sure.

I have had my Hill EC3000 for 2 months now and my only problem is getting the replacement oils from pyramyd air,
I ordered extra with my compressor but they backordered it. The compressor is so very easy to operate and quick to fill my rifle. Now I am stuck with a super expensive carbon tank. I had previously decided on a Alkin but decided it was over kill and too dangerous to fill customers tanks and I saved a lot of cash.
